The Adtalem Global Education Foundation (The Foundation) has awarded a $20,000 grant to The Dysautonomia Project (TDP) to expand The Residents Course, an intensive three-day course in autonomic medicine that is funded and administered by TDP to medical residents, in an ongoing effort to improve patient outcomes by educating healthcare professionals, patients, and communities about disorders of the autonomic nervous system.
The funding will support the development of The Clinician Program, which is designed to complement The Residents Course by providing established clinicians with advanced training and resources to better diagnose and treat dysautonomia, a complex and often misunderstood condition that impacts more than 70 million people.
“As the global leader in dysautonomia education, TDP is expanding the groundbreaking work of The Residents Course to include The Clinician Program, a new, one-day concurrent program for doctors, nurses and other advanced healthcare providers,” said Alexandra Key, executive director of TDP. “Through generous support from the Adtalem Global Education Foundation, this new medical education program will widen access to care for dysautonomia patients everywhere.”
The Foundation supports partners and programs that strengthen the healthcare workforce pipeline for minorities, increase access to quality education, address healthcare disparities, and promote economic growth through workforce development in the healthcare industry. The Foundation’s sole member is Adtalem Global Education, the number one provider of healthcare education in the U.S.[1]
“To effectively advance health equity and address disparities in healthcare, including gaps in access and quality, it needs to be done at scale,” said Blake Simpson, senior vice president, chief communications and corporate affairs officer. “Through the Foundation, Adtalem Global Education broadens its impact in the healthcare industry by supporting organizations like TDP that are committed to improving patient outcomes by exponentially increasing the number of clinicians educated in specialty medical fields.”
The Foundation’s grant to TDP underscores the importance of having access to high-quality education, supporting the development of the communities where we live and work; and combating inequality in the healthcare industry.
The Clinician Program is an eight-hour medical education program serving up to 150 established doctors, nurses and other advanced healthcare providers from across the U.S. It will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
