Other Helpful Tests

In this video Dr. Singer discusses other helpful tests when assessing autonomic function.

There are a number of other helpful tests to assess the autonomic nervous system and some of that I’m sure you’ve heard earlier today, and these are not part of our standard routine battery that we do as part of our electrophysiological testing. We nevertheless utilize some of these tests on an as-needed basis depending on the indication and the question and how the patient presents. We often will get supine and standing plasma catecholamines, many like the cardiac MIBG scan that certainly has been shown to be quite helpful in separating synucleinopathies, and skin biopsies are becoming more and more popular as well, not only for epidermal, but also for sweat gland nerve fiber density testing.
